1st Annual Hunu Apparel Cornhole Tournament Recap

Date: November 10, 2018
Location: Woodsong Road, Westfield MA
Start Time: 12:00 pm sharp

Hours before the tournament, my father and I were setting up outside testing out the keg’s fluidity and the physicality of the newly painted Cornhole boards.  With the sun barely peeking through the clouds, a light snowfall set the tone for the day to come.

Ladies and Gentlemen, get ready to battle the elements!

Around 11:30 am, I received a call from Devin O’Grady who wanted to come through as a last minute addition.  With 5 teams already registered, Devin would serve as the first alternate barring any cornhole related injuries.

With everyone arriving around noon, I passed out the new apparel and took pictures of everyone in their new Hunu Apparel gear, which helped to keep us “somewhat” warm.

A buffet style of Golden BBQ Pizza, my homemade Crockpot of Chili, Boneless Sweet Chili Wings, Taco Bell's $10 taco-box, and a ¼ Barrel Keg of Miller Light were consumed throughout the day.  It was the ultimate smorgasbord, no doubt about it.

Nevertheless, the tournament began with qualifying round-robin play.  A series of four different heats, each team played 3 games to decide the seeding of the double-elimination bracket.

Shoutout to Pat Wroth for bringing the second set of boards so that two games could be played at all times.

Also special shoutout to Casey McKenzie for bringing his camera and also taking pictures throughout the day.  Notice the Chili stain on his new sweatshirt.

Shoutout to Jeremy Doody as well for being the most photogenic, and yes ladies, he is single.

Despite Devin being a last second addition, he still received a possible LinkedIn Profile picture.

At the end of the qualifying round, the seeding was as followed:

  1. Jake Beman & Chris Paradis
  2. Casey McKenzie & Jeremy Doody
  3. Luke Chlastawa & Beka Santiago (Alternate: Devin O’Grady)
  4. Pat Wroth & Katie Konieczny
  5. Dan Charvet & Steph Waite

With Beka having to leave to attend to a family matter, Devin stepped up in clutch time, helping Luke upset Casey and Jeremy with a semi-final victory.

Although Beman and Paradis proved to be victorious in the end despite the valiant efforts of all competitors, making it a clean sweep, never wavering defeat.

The tournament was capped off with an epic bonfire with classic banter and camaraderie.  It was highlighted by Casey downing his 8th bowl of Chili and finally learning the origin of Pat and Katie’s relationship.  Thanks to all my friends who participated and helped launch my first brand event! Let the good times roll and stay creative!
